Detroit claims championship; Bo wins the pool
Congratulations to Bo Chen ($1134) on what turned out to be a decisive victory in the pool and to Ron Wener ($567) and Alan Eng ($189) for picking up good sums of cash for second and third. Alan edged out Jerome R. Brouard and Sean Smith by one point for the final money spot. The final analysis is now available. Thank you to all participants this year for making this the largest pool yet and come back again next year!

It's a wrap! 6/5/2008 12:15:17 AM
Round four proved to have more surprises than anticipated for the pool - including up to the last game. Dennis Clayton managed to jump up two points to tie former leader Karen Savoie for third prior to the Cup bonus points, after it was presumed that Karen would likely finish on top. Meanwhile, Bo Chen increased his sizeable lead to nine points over second-place Ron Wener. Bo and Ron finished first and second with Alan Eng bonusing up to third.

Wings hold off Penguin surge for Cup victory 6/5/2008 12:00:50 AM
Pittsburgh scored a late goal to pull within one, and came inches away from tying it in the last second, but Detroit held them off to win the Stanley Cup in six games. Henrik Zetterberg won the Conn Smythe Trophy after sharing the playoff scoring lead with Sidney Crosby.

Still alive 3/6/2008 1:35:12 AM
Marc-Andre Fleury's 55 saves kept Pittsburgh in the game and the hockey season alive until the Pens scored in the third overtime. Marian Hossa, Sidney Crosby, Brian Rafalski, and Henrik Zetterberg collected two points each.

Bo, Ron in the clear 5/31/2008 11:09:23 PM
Bo Chen and Ron Wener are virtually in the clear for two money positions - on the verge of taking first and second if Detroit wins, and now far enough ahead to hold on to second and third even if Pittsburgh makes a comeback. Alan Eng will take third if the Wings win while Karen Savoie would win if the Pens do.

Detroit wins one on the road 5/31/2008 10:59:47 PM
Marian Hossa and Sergei Gonchar paired up for the early Pittsburgh goal but Nicklas Lidstrom tied it soon after and Detroit eked out a 2-1 victory. The Red Wings can capture the Cup at home on Monday.

Penguins back in it 5/28/2008 11:00:30 PM
Sidney Crosby broke the seal on Chris Osgood and led the team along with Marian Hossa and Marc-Andre Fleury to a 3-2 victory. Hossa and Fleury are difference makers in the pool results although ironically it is leading Detroit contender Bo Chen who has Hossa.

Osgood shutouts making longshot scenario reality 5/26/2008 11:48:55 PM
It looked like a longshot for Ron Wener to move into money position by getting two Osgood shutouts, but it's happened after two games and now he's slated to finish second in a Detroit win. Bo Chen has strengthened his first place hold in the Detroit scenario and now has jumped over Karen Savoie in the daily standings - the first ledear change since round two. Meanwhile Alan Eng can still finish third if the Wings win.

Osgood get first laugh 5/24/2008 11:11:33 PM
One game into the finals and my round 3 analysis suggestion that there were unlikely to be shutouts this series is out the window. Chris Osgood posted his second shutout of the playoffs as Detroit showed Pittsburgh a thing or two about playing in the finals. The shutout lifted Bo Chen to a 5-point lead in the Detroit win scenario and into a second place tie in the Pittsburgh win scenario. Ron Wener also got a shutout to jump into a tie for 3rd on the Detroit list.

Detroit puts Dallas to rest 5/20/2008 1:19:10 AM
After losing the last two chances to put Dallas out, Detroit finally got the win they needed to return to the finals for the first time since 2002. Dallas' 11 picks are out and we're left with the two most popular teams - Detroit has 360 picks and Pittsburgh has 353. The pool's money winners will be determined by which team wins the Cup and who gets the 10-point bonus. The contenders will be identified in the Round 3 analysis when it's posted later this week.

Hossa, Fleury change the stakes 5/18/2008 8:17:57 PM
Marian Hossa's four-point game has changed the story in the leaderboard. Hossa entries led by Dennis Clayton, Bo Chen, and the Fab Five have jumped into the picture with Clayton in second place and the rest in third, hurting Alan Eng and Gaston Nowlan. Meanwhile Karen Savoie capitalized on Marc-Andre Fleury's shutout to jump to a five point lead - the biggest lead in the pool to date.

Penguins advance 5/18/2008 8:13:13 PM
Pittsburgh is going to the Stanley Cup final for the first time in 16 years. Sidney Crosby refused to touch the Prince of Wales trophy - perhaps a critical mistake of the Ottawa Senators last year - after the Penguins improved their playoff record to 12-2 with a 6-0 win over Philadelphia. The Flyers made a brave run to the Conference Finals after a dismal season last year, and their elimination knocks out six picks from the pool.

Comeback? 5/17/2008 8:53:28 PM
Dallas is still alive after winning 2-1 in Detroit. A group of five people led by Georgia Strachan picked up a point on Brad Richards' assist, while Marni Berman also had two more from Marty Turco to jump 17 places from 128th to 111th.
