Photo Finish
It was as close a finish as could be, with only one point separating the top three. Congratulations to Janine Webster for her victory, the bonus for picking LA enough to lift her into first place by one point. Brendon Pretty used his Cup bonus to claim a tie for second with Stephen Craig, who lead for a lot of the pool and hung on to share the second place winnings only a point back from the top prize. The race changed by the moment with each goal LA scored in the final game - and with the Devils preventing a Jonathan Quick shutout with their goal. Congratulations to the winners on an exciting finish and thank you to all participants for playing.

Final analysis 6/19/2012 4:21:00 PM
It only took a week... but better late than never. The final analysis including the key to the pool, this year's Dream Team, who was hot/not at the end, and other info for pool junkies, is now posted here. Thanks to everyone for playing and come back next year for LSP 2013!

Kings win in dominating fashion 6/11/2012 11:35:00 PM
The Los Angeles Kings dominated Game 6 to cap a dominating Stanley Cup run. It was a win only two of our 233 entries wagered on but players likeJonathan Quick, Dustin Brown, and Anze Kopitar decided the outcome of the pool. Quick led all players with 30 points, Brown and Kopitar tied for the scoring lead with 20, and Drew Doughty led defensemen with 16.

Stat correction adds to close finish... 6/11/2012 10:22:00 PM
A stat correction upon review of the first five games of the series has given an additional point to Drew Doughty that was missing from game 4. As a result Stephen Craig has a one point edge over Brendon Pretty for second place in the case of a Kings win. At the same time Stephen is only two points behind Janine Webster for the pool win after the 10-point Cup bonus in the offing for Janine and Brendon. We might have quite a close finish!

Devils deal Kings their first road loss 6/9/2012 11:08:00 PM
New Jersey has stayed alive again, beating the LA Kings 2-1 to ruin the Kings' perfect road playoff record and climb back in to the series. The Kings will have a final home game on Monday to try to seal the victory and prevent a game 7. Stephen Craig got two points tonight to move into what would be a tie for second with Brendon Pretty should the Kings win, but the question can now at least be entertained... can the Devils win two more for the ultimate comeback?

Devils live another day 6/6/2012 11:27:00 PM
New Jersey had a few close calls in their own end but sustained their pressure long enough to eke out a win in game 4 and stay alive. Ilya Kovalchuk got his first point of the series with an empty-net goal. So we return to New Jersey on Saturday where the Kings will try to end it with one final road victory. Tonight's results helped Stephen Craig narrow his gap to two points behind second-place Brendon Pretty in the event of a Kings win.

Janine Webster solidifies odds for pool win 6/5/2012 12:06:00 AM
Jonathan Quick's shutout has boosted Janine Webster's chance of winning the pool in the eventual LA championship, and saved Brendon Pretty's second place finish. They both need to be within 10 points of the lead to allow their Cup bonus to carry them to the top. Brendon was supposed to benefit from his Devils players to surpass Janine, but with New Jersey only scoring two goals in three games, Brendon remains four points back. Stephen Craig is well positioned for third place as the top player without an LA cup pick, though Blair Phillips has an outside chance to close the two-point gap, depending on which line plays hero for the Kings. Good luck to these contenders entering the final game(s)!

Kings dominate, on verge of Cup 6/5/2012 12:01:00 AM
The improbable story of the Los Angeles Kings continued with a stunning 4-0 shutout in game 3 giving them a 3-0 series lead and a chance to be the most dominating playoff team since the 1988 Oilers. They are the first team to lead all four playoff series 3-0, the first eighth seed to knock of each of the top three seeds in the conference and could be the first eighth seed to win the Cup. They are also 10-0 on the road. It's not over yet but unless there is an historic collapse, it's safe to look at it as when, not if.

The Devils
The Devils' grinders delivered their winning goal in game 5.
LA finds a way - again 6/2/2012 11:39:00 PM
The Kings managed another tight overtime victory on the road to go to 10-0 away from home these playoffs and take a 2-0 lead in the finals. Four of the top five poolies got a single point as not much movement is happening at the top of the standings. Andrew Ryan had the high for today with two points - have contribute to his climb, up to 24th from 46th at the beginning of this round.

Kings win opener, extend road record to 9-0 5/30/2012 11:28:00 PM
Los Angeles continued to dominate the playoffs, though they needed overtime tonight to open up a 1-0 series lead - where else but on the road. Stephen Craig capitalized with three points in the low scoring game to extend his lead and, despite LA winning, move to within one point of a ten-point buffer on Janine Webster (in case LA wins the Cup). Janine had two points. Andrew Ryan also had three points on the night.

The All-Underdog Final 5/30/2012 6:44:00 PM
It's the final perhaps only one person out of 233 predicted, but it promises to be one of the most interesting in years. Both New Jersey (6th seed) and Los Angeles (8th seed) come from the bottom half of their conferences, and of course few people in the pool picked them. Only 116 picks remain (for 233 entries) and only five have picked one of these two teams to win. See the contenders, winning conditions they require, who was hot (and not) in round three, and more tidbits in the round three analysis.

Craig strengthens lead, looks unbeatable 5/25/2012 11:40:00 PM
Stephen Craig may have just a one point lead after round three, but he is the only remaining poolie with 6 players and the only one in the top 50 who picked the Devils to win. He is poised to win the title if New Jersey wins the cup - and has a decent chance of getting the ten point lead over Janine Webster and Brendon Pretty he would need to hold on in case of an LA victory. More prognostications and projections when the least-likely-to-be-read-in-history round three analysis is ready sometime in the next few days.

New Jersey survives another comeback, wins series 5/25/2012 11:32:00 PM
The New Jersey Devils survived a second straight New York comeback to win its series in six games, eliminating the last remaining "favourite" in the pool and setting up an unlikely Cup final. Ilya Kovalchuk had two points to take over the playoff points lead, something 42 people are happy about - he is the highest-picked remaining player. But that is small consolation to the many whose final hopes - and final players - were among the 239 Rangers eliminated tonight.
