It's all about the blood, the guts, and the glory.
Room for four on the podium 6/24/2013 11:51:00 PM
Chicago's victory gives 72 poolies a 10-point bonus, and lifts Marie Loop to the top. Marie was hovering in the leaderboard for six weeks though only in the lead briefly - in a tie - after round 3. Yet the right combination of players and the Cup bonus has lifted her into first place at the $1482 prize. Picking the Hawks also lifted Jacqui Snow into second place ($741), just one point behind, while Aron Slipacoff and Brandon Poitras - with an outstanding result in round 4 - hung on to the third-place tie ($123.50 each). To round out the top 5 - just on the outside looking in - is Evan Hoey, who needed a Boston victory to climb the podium. Congratulations to the winners of Lord Stanley's Pool 2013!

Last-minute heroics win cup for Chicago 6/24/2013 11:38:00 PM
Fittingly, in a playoff year filled with last-minute goals, comebacks, and upsets, the 2013 Stanley Cup was won in exactly that fashion. Just a minute away from game seven after a late goal by Boston, Chicago scored two goals 17 seconds apart to lift the Cup. Congratulations to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Chicago wins third game, could end it Monday 6/23/2013 1:16:00 AM
Chicago's game 5 victory gives them the advantage in the series heading to Boston on Monday. If they end it there, Marie Loop still has the inside track to win, followed by Jacqui Snow. But pool leaders Aron Slipacoff and Brandon Poitras - tied for third if Chicago wins - narrowed the gap by one point tonight, leaving themselves only one point behind Jacqui and three behind Marie. They could make a play for the pool victory even without picking the correct team.

Slipacoff, Poitras slip into the lead 6/20/2013 3:02:00 AM
Big nights for Aron Slipacoff and Brandon Poitras let them close a three-point gap and take a single point lead, as we introduce new leaders for the second game in a row. Evan Hoey drops to third and still has the inside track if Boston wins the Cup - but Aron and Brandon would tie for 2nd and 3rd as it stands today. If Chicago wins, Marie Loop would win with Jacqui Snow second, while Aron and Brandon would tie for third. Alan Eng is furiously trying to get in the game - he had a night-high 9 points - but still needs to make up an 8-point deficit.

Finals battle to continue 6/20/2013 2:56:00 AM
One sudden-death goal was the difference between a commanding 3-1 series lead and a 2-2 battle. Chicago got the goal to tie the series and extend it for at least two more games. It also keeps alive the pool battle with two separate outcomes in store depending on who wins the final game. Stay tuned.

New leaders honing in on the money 6/17/2013 11:14:00 PM
Boston's shutout has placed three fresh entries into the podium positions at the top of the pool. Evan Hoey, who already had the inside track to win if Boston wins the Cup (10-point bonus), leads the pool by three points, followed by Aron Slipacoff and Brandon Poitras, tied for second. Neither Aron nor Brandon picked Boston to win, but the next person who did - Dave Poitras - is 12 points back so Aron and Brandon would hold on to the money positions. Meanwhile Scott Poitras, who was 230th after round 1, has entered the top 10.

Rask takes over 6/17/2013 11:05:00 PM
Tuukka Rask delivered his third shutout of the playoffs and took over as the top pick in the pool, to give Boston a 2-1 series lead in the finals. Of the 16 people who picked Rask, 14 are now in the top 60 and five are in the top 10. Boston may have been aided in this shutout by the absence of Chicago's Marian Hossa, who was injured before the game.

Series tied, leaderboard narrowing 6/15/2013 11:45:00 PM
Two overtime games into the finals and we have a 1-1 series, which could very easily go seven games. Despite very few points available tonight, Evan Hoey got three of them and narrowed the gap between himself and the four leaders. Of course those leaders will take a back seat to the Cup bonus: Evan's got it locked if Boston wins, but he needs two points to tie third in the event that the Hawks win the Cup.

Spedding, Eng trying to sneak in 6/13/2013 1:27:00 AM
Kara Spedding gained a point on the pool leaders (thanks to Boston's Patrice Bergeron) and now would stand tied for third if Chicago wins the Cup. Kara would edge out husband Dave Spedding for a share of the podium. Meanwhile Alan Eng capitalized on David Krejci's two points to lift himself into the top ten and put him into the running (albeit still a longshot) if Boston wins in a long series.

Marathon game 1 ends in Chicago win 6/13/2013 1:21:00 AM
The Cup finals have begun with the longest game of the season, with Chicago winning in the third overtime. Despite four goals scored by the Hawks only Marian Hossa's point and goalie Corey Crawford's win impacts the pool standings, while Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci (2 points) made things count from Boston's side.

Four-way tie heading into finals 6/9/2013 1:11:00 AM
After round three we have an unlikely four-way tie for first place. Marie Loop, Dave Spedding, Diego DeMarco, and Cheyne Matheson had all been hovering around the top spot for most of the round, and head into the finals tied with 123 points. But of these poolies, only Marie has a realistic shot to win the pool, as she is the only one with her Cup pick (Chicago) still in play. The upcoming Round 3 Analysis will break down the contenders in the event of either finalist winning the Cup.
