S Ripsman wins Lord Stanley's Pool 9/29/2020 2:59:00 AM
The Lightning have won the Cup and S Ripsman completed the climb to the top of the standings with just enough to edge Frank Pileggi, 183-182. Ripsman, Pileggi, and Hugh MacPhie cashed in their 10-point Cup bonuses to get to the podium - while Hanna-Marea Kennedy clawed back a tie with Hugh for third with the shutout in the final game. Adam Marrus gets recognition (but no prize) finishing in 5th place for the second year in a row. Congrats to all!

Dallas survives game five, Ripsman clinches 9/27/2020 5:47:00 AM
Dallas' double overtime win keeps them alive for at least one more game. Three points for Tyler Seguin lifts Hugh MacPhie to within three of Frank Pileggi, while S Ripsman has officially passed Frank to clinch first place if Tampa wins on Monday.

Race to the finish 9/26/2020 2:45:00 AM
With Tampa up 3-1, their likely victory would put Frank Pileggi at 171 points, with S Ripsman at 170 and charging through. Hugh MacPhie sits in third at 165 as all three would pass Hanna-Marea Kennedy with their Cup bonus. Ripsman could leapfrog Frank if Dallas finds the net even in a loss, and if it lasts any longer she will clinch easily.

Stamkos!! 9/25/2020 9:29:00 AM
For Steven Stamkos to play for all of a few minutes these playoffs and score a Cup-series goal might be an inspiring hockey story, but for the pool it was a day late and $199 short. Of the five people who gambled on Stamkos, Graham Haines could have been in the running for a top-three finish with a 22-point full playoff from the Lightning captain.

Leader has a rooting dilemma 9/23/2020 8:42:00 AM
What is Hanna-Marea Kennedy to do? Dallas offence has her lead narrowing, but a Tampa cup win would knock her out of first. Hanna-Marea needs Dallas to win a short, low-offense series to hold on to the top prize. Adam Marrus is in a similar but worse boat - the Dallas win could allow him to hang on to a tie for third.

Ripsman making her way up 9/22/2020 8:38:00 AM
An eight-point game 2 for S Ripsman, including four from Dallas players, has her safely into fifth, only seven points behind leader Hanna-Marea Kennedy. After two games the gap has nearly halved. Same against Frank Pileggi, the leader if Tampa wins, where S is now only five points behind rather than eight.

Pool finish all about Dallas players 9/20/2020 10:19:00 PM
Leader Hanna-Marea Kennedy has silenced all challengers except for two: S Ripsman and Hugh MacPhie. S and Hugh need 15 points from their Dallas players to overtake Hanna-Marea - if Dallas wins the Cup. If Tampa wins, Frank Pileggi is the leader to watch, and S and Hugh need 13 points to beat Frank (though only 5 to pass Hanna-Marea for 2nd).

Magic number down to 12 9/20/2020 10:23:00 AM
Three points in Dallas' opening game win has reduced S Ripsman's magic number to catch pool leader Hanna-Marea Kennedy to 12. Judah Gould also gained two points on the field to crack the top 20.

And one more 9/16/2020 2:45:00 AM
Not mentioned in yesterday's story, Emiliano Santiago also hopes for the Islanders to pull through. Semyon Varlamov, Mathew Barzal and Jordan Eberle totaled three points for Emiliano in the Islanders' game five win. Can they give him 15 more if they get through to the finals?

Hanging on to the Island 9/15/2020 2:26:00 AM
Two pool challengers still have a chance to place if the Islanders can swing a three-game comeback, only one of whom chose NYI players. Former leader Richard Gretzinger was essentially done when the Flyers were bumped but with the Vegas carnage, he could (just barely) hang on to a three-way 2nd place tie if Andrei Vasilevsiy gets no more points. Jonah P. Rabinovitch, the only contestant who picked New York to win the Cup, is 22 points behind but riding Semyon Varlamov, Matthew Barzal and Devon Toews to three wins against Tampa followed by a ride through the Finals, could put him right up there. Or it could all be over for both tomorrow.

Underdog uprising 9/15/2020 2:10:00 AM
The Dallas Stars are the underdog feel good story of the season. With only 25 player picks and none for the Cup, they eliminated #2 seed Vegas (215, 29) along with nearly all of the pool challengers in the top 20 other than those in the previous story and the next story.

Dallas-Tampa final, anyone? 9/14/2020 1:38:00 AM
With both the Stars and Lightning up 3-1 in their series, who stands to benefit if this is the final round matchup? Mostly those at the top who did not pick Vegas. Hanna-Marea Kennedy, now alone in first, would lock in her 2-point advantage over Frank Pileggi and Adam Marrus if Max Pacioretty is eliminated - though Frank would prevail with the Cup bonus if Tampa wins it all. Hugh MacPhie and S Ripsman now sitting 10th and 11th, would have a chance to get to the podium if their Dallas players perform well but still lose to the Bolts.
