Florida Panthers victorious
After winning the Presidents' Trophy in 2022 and losing the Cup finals in '23, the Florida Panthers denied Edmonton's improbable comeback to win a thrilling Game 7. And with that, we have our pool champions. Congratulations to the pool winner, John Thompson, capturing the title with 229 points! Just three points behind are Anthony Bruno and Donna Thompson, tying for second and third to share those prizes. A well picked, competitive pool that went down to the wire.

Check out the Final Analysis of the winning entries, the key to the pool, and the 2024 Dream Team. Thanks for playing and see you next year!

It took until game 7 but the Panthers would not be denied.

Biggest game seven in a generation 6/24/2024 6:13:00 PM
In what will be a historic game 7, the Stanley Cup will be raised tonight. Can Connor McDavid lead the Oilers to the greatest Cup comeback since 1942 (or maybe ever)? It's a must-watch.

Meanwhile in the pool: If the Oilers win, Mike Osburn would be the champ, if the Panthers win it would be John Thompson. Good luck to both of you and... Go Oilers!

Barkov's point creates 3rd place tie 6/24/2024 1:49:00 AM
Aleksandr Barkov's point in Florida's loss has lifted Tom Nicholl into a 3rd-place tie with defending co-champion Laura Speciale in the event of an Oilers win on Monday. The final spot would be decided by Barkov versus Sam Reinhart.

McDavid surpassing Gretzky in legendary playoff run 6/18/2024 11:31:00 PM
Following a historic 100-assist season, Connor McDavid is having a legendary playoff run. With 8 points in his past two games facing elimination, McDavid has broken Wayne Gretzky's NHL record for most assists in a post-season, and has the most points in a playoff run in over 30 years. He is now just five points behind Gretzky's record of 47 points and given his recent play, it's not out of the question that he breaks it if he also leads the Oilers to two more wins.

Barkov 2, Reinhart 1 6/8/2024 11:34:00 PM
Scoring in the final round comes down to Aleksandr Barkov vs Sam Reinhart, and by virtue of an empty-net assist, Barkov is up by one. This pads Anthony Bruno and Donna Thompson's hold on 2nd and 3rd to 3 points (in the FLA-win scenario). The shutout by Sergei Bobrovsky doesn't change any outcome but it does underline why he was the right goalie to pick.

Edmonton vs Florida 6/8/2024 5:50:00 PM
The final series is here. Edmonton versus Florida will battle for the Cup and the outcome of the pool will be determined by the winning team. The Round 3 Analysis will break down who will win, and place on the podium, in either scenario. Also included: who's hot (and not) and projections for round four. Good luck in the final series! (and Go Oilers!)

Stars result tonight can flip final standings 6/2/2024 11:50:00 AM
A Dallas series comeback looks difficult, but even in a loss they could affect the outcome of the pool. The final showdown between current leaders Allard, Osburn & Thompson and challengers Anthony & the Thompson Twins. With the same six from Edmonton and Florida, the challengers need three points from Stars Robertson, Heiskanen, and Hintz to tie the leaders and four to take a permanent lead before these players are eliminated.

Favourites fall to Florida 6/2/2024 11:29:00 AM
The pool-favourite New York Rangers, with 64 Cup picks, are out of the running, eliminating 471 picks in favour of Florida's 30 and 271. This helps secure the top 10 in the standings, who picked Panthers, over challengers in the 10-25 positions who had Rangers. Amelia Thompson would have led this group.

McDavid
McDavid's legendary run continues and the Oilers are still alive.
Pool contenders depend on Cup scenario 5/30/2024 2:02:00 AM
Halfway through round 3, with both series tied, we can see who the contenders are in this ultra-competitive pool. It all depends on which team wins the Cup: If Edmonton wins, Mike Osburn currently has the edge over Ryan Thompson, unless Ryan's Dallas players get three points to tie, or four points to win, in losing two of the next three games. If New York wins, Owen Thompson would take the top spot unless the Rangers play the Oilers and his Dallas picks can't close a three-point gap behind Amelia Thompson in the next 2-3 games. If Dallas wins, it looks like Noah Miller in a walk. And if Florida wins, Anthony Bruno and Donna Thompson would tie for first, unless their Dallas picks can't get three points, in which case John Thompson would take the crown. A victory by a Thompson seems... likely. Stay tuned as a big weekend is coming up that will eliminate at least half of these entries from first-place contention.

Dallas scoring outburst brings challengers on to the leaderboard 5/28/2024 2:26:00 AM
Dallas' 5-3 victory over Edmonton in game 3 has provided a boost for those who took Dallas players instead of Colorado, bringing a new group into the top "5". Anthony & the Thompson twins, Noah Miller, and Kinsey Gill & Warren Duncan are all now tied for fourth place, four points back of the leaders. While Kinsey & Warren won't be able to keep up, the others all have nine players including three Stars that provide straight gains with every goal they score.

Bobrovsky shutout makes a statement in Game 1 5/23/2024 12:33:00 AM
Florida's game 1 victory over the Rangers gives the Panthers backers an early edge, but it is Sergei Bobrovski's shutout that makes the biggest statement, lifting half of the top 20. Pierre, Mike & John now hold a four-point lead over fourth and ten points over sixth. New to the top 5 are Kinsey Gill and Warren Duncan.

Anything can happen as we enter Round 3 5/23/2024 12:26:00 AM
Four strong teams in the conference finals, and we have a very tight race with many possible outcomes. Each series will have its own impact. The Round 2 Analysis breaks it down, explains the same-card-itis in the standings, who's hot and not, and projected round 3 standings. It should be two great series so enjoy the hockey!

Dallas win will have huge implications 5/18/2024 9:27:00 AM
After Florida eliminated Boston, sustaining many of the pool contenders into next round, #3 Colorado's defeat could turn the pool on its side. Most of the Avs' 385 picks are in the upper ranks of the standings. Smart Dallas pickers like Noah Miller and others are have been moving up and stand to capitalize in Round 3.
