Round 3 Report

The pool is coming down to the wire! The contenders have been determined, and the also-rans will settle for jockeying for position. Only the top three will get the cash, but everyone was in on the fun!

CASH CONTENDERS
The big factor in the money will be who wins the Cup. This leaves numerous people in the running for the cash prizes of: 1st - $240, 2nd - $120, 3rd - $40.

The two most likely winners are the current first place holders. Vince Brescia and Ron Wener are tied -- and will end the pool tied -- but the Cup winner will give one of them ten more points.

Colorado - If the Avalanche win, Vince Brescia will likely be the winner. His 7-point lead over Anita Coulter is permanent as they have the same players. But Andrea Swanson, currently 3rd, may pass Anita... she needs Drury plus Arnott to get 5 more points than Sykora (and 12 more to pass Vince).

Even though he picked the Devils, Ron Wener can still finish 3rd, but only if Sykora matches the points of Drury + Arnott.

Jacqui Snow, currently 4th, will only drop and John Lee, 5th, needs Niedermayer to out-point Sykora, which is unlikely. But Aksel Lielmanis has an outside shot if Patrick Roy gets a couple of shutouts.

New Jersey - Ron Wener will be the probable winner if the Devils win. He has a seven point lead on Mohan Krishnamoorthy, who has Hejduk to Ron's Blake. This is a wide margin for one player in one series. Patrick Sheahan, currently 3rd, is two points back of Mohan, and has Mogilny and Blake to Mohan's Hejduk and Sykora.

Vince Brescia can still come third if Sykora outpoints Mogilny.

It is unlikely for any other New Jersey backers to break in... Vince Galante and Crawford Dedman are a further 6 and 9 points back, with the same players as those in front, and Jim Murphy, tied with Crawford, has Niedermayer instead of Sykora.

Others - Stefania Garofoli still has an outside chance of finishing 3rd despite picking Pittsburgh to win. She needs Sykora and Bourque to get five more points than Drury and Arnott, or seven more than Mogilny and Blake, depending on who wins the Cup.

SIX PLAYERS LEFT CLUB
Only four people have six players left in the pool, the maximum possible for the final round. Thanks to Forsberg's injury, only Andrea Swanson, Al White, Karen Patterson, and Brian Ross have a full slate -- but only Andrea has a chance for cash. Brian Ross was the least impacted from lost players in the entire pool, as his three other players only got five points.
