Opening Analysis / Round 1 / Round 2 / Round 3 / Final
 |
Sergei Bobrovsky is pacing all goaltenders with 8 wins and 2 shutouts |
We started Round 2 with hope for our Canadian teams, and ended it with hearbreak. Winnipeg and Toronto were the top two in Cup hearts (190 of 412 entries took them) and picks (over 1000 total) but were eliminated on the final two nights of the round.
All four division winners were eliminated this round, a total of 1,662 picks or 45% of the pool, leaving us with just 856 picks for the final two rounds. Many are wiped out and others have only their Edmonton picks left. It leaves us with little competition for second half of the pool. Some years it just happens this way.
Still, if you have players left, see the Round 3 Projections below to see if you are expected to rise or fall in the coming games.

Only two entries remain with a full nine players: Mitch Wexler and Ryan Wood. Both picked three each from Florida, Dallas, and Edmonton. While they have 6 players in common, the main difference is their goaltenders - Sergei Bobrovsky has put Mitch in a position to win the pool while a few Jake Oettinger shutouts and a Stars Cup win could put Ryan over the top.
Adam Jamieson is the only other poolie with more than six players - he has 7 and a great shot to land on the podium. Other podium contenders include Brandon Poitras, Daisy Marquez, and Jo-Anne Enzel if Florida wins; Silvio Memme if Dallas wins, and Claudia Winkler and Jamie Sarner if Carolina makes it through. Check out the new Challenge Mode in the standings to see who's got the cards to move up.
I didn't specifically bet against our Canadian teams - I took Oilers for example - but it turned out that many people's misfortune with the Jets and Leafs became my gain with the Panthers and Stars. And the random result is: I appear to be poised to win my own pool.
While I admit that I did cheer for the enemy, I felt a pang of guilt when the broadcast panned to the sad Leafs fans in game 7. Please don't hate me, it's random who wins... or at least luck, plus league parity.
With the result of the second round, it's official: Austin Neilson will finish ahead of his dad for the sixth year in a row. But Austin (and I) have promised to be nicer to Gareth Neilson. We believe in you Gareth! You will do it next year!

Here are the projected scores and rankings for after
round 3. The projection assumes (wrongly, of course) that the players you
have alive will produce in round 3 at the same average rate as in rounds 1 and 2.
